Employment: I am a teen counselor for the Academy at Cedar Mountain and love my job! Everyday I witness changes that occur as troubled teens identify which incorrect choices have brought them to this point in their lives. I feel many Utah teenagers are sheltered, and at the Academy I see first-hand what problems can exist for teens in the real world. I fear what lies ahead for the youth of our own state if we don’t take action soon.

Marketing Plan: The MAO is experiencing a period of great change and faces serious issues regarding its direction and focus. It is time the representatives from each state across our nation accept responsibility in assisting the national and state offices to change the organization’s perception and truly promote the brand. My marketing plan would emphasize a proper balance for all things associated with the title. It includes a heavy focus on my media platform, but also an awareness of the importance of graciousness and timing for all events related to a Miss Utah appearance. We must bring back the “glamour” and “celebrity” that accompany this crown, realizing the title holds with it much more than just a platform spotlight. I am a person who is passionate for her platform, but who also has the social experience, personality and talent to fill the demands of this job.

Legacy: I hope my year of service will be one of change for the state organization as it redefines its role. Through my continued activism combating negative media influence I would bring attention to our nation’s obsession with TV, teach the importance of monitoring children’s media habits, and pass legislation holding networks accountable for what they program, and businesses accountable for what they sell. I also want to be remembered as one who was involved in many different types of events – not only those associated with my platform. I want the public to see me laughing with children, playing in softball tournaments, volunteering for charities, attending social events, wrestling pigs, performing my talent, or

Appearing on Hollywood Squares, Fear Factor, and late night talk shows! Miss America and Miss Utah must be visible, bold and determined to bring about a successful future for the MAO -- done in a very interactive, ambitious, and modern fashion.

Why should I be Miss Utah & Miss America this year: I competed for the title of Miss Utah in 2003, and since then have allowed myself to “age-up”, recognize positive change in my life, and realize that I can be a successful Miss Utah, and competitor for Miss America. I know how to properly interact with impressionable teenagers while motivating them to change the direction of their lives. I also have had many opportunities to address adults and senior citizens, rub shoulders with celebrities, and represent students from one of the “Top 10” universities in our nation. I have worked in the modeling industry, appeared on television, and spent the past four years promoting responsibility in combating the influence of negative media in our lives. My diverse experiences and passion for all I do qualify me for the job of Miss Utah, and I’m ready for the challenge!
